Following the success of free all-day car parking introduced by Shrewsbury BID over the May Bank Holiday, NCP has joined the scheme for Sunday 25th and Monday 26th August, making it a town centre wide initiative.

The two-part, free parking scheme with NCP, Shropshire Council and the owners of privately managed car parks was created to encourage visitors to Shrewsbury town centre over the bank holiday and help support traders.

Kirsten Henly, Shrewsbury BID Manager, said: “We are delighted that NCP is now on board, following the success of May’s bank holiday car parking initiative. Traders reported a boost in custom which is exactly why the scheme was introduced.

“This is an activity we’ve organised following businesses requesting support for local trading through car parking and accessibility initiatives. We are pleased to deliver free parking over the long weekend, when visitors are coming to town and people are looking for a day out shopping or relaxing. It is a real bonus to be able to have free parking in all of Shrewsbury’s town centre car parks.”

Steve Dey, Business Manager for the West Midlands at NCP, said: “We’re proud to be part of this campaign as we are always keen to support local traders and shoppers. Visitors to our Wyle Cop car parks will be able to take their time in the town centre and enjoy all that it has to offer.”

Councillor Claire Wild, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport at Shropshire Council, “Following the success of May’s initial promotion and the positive response from the public, it’s great that we have NCP as another partner to help support the town centre this bank holiday weekend.”

NCP already has an Early Bird offer of £3 (park between 6.30 and before 9.30am for up to 12 hours of parking) as well as all day parking (up to 12 hours) on a Sunday for £1. Shropshire Council offers free parking in all its off street surface car parks on all bank and public holidays and a half price tariff on bank holiday Sunday.

There will be free parking all day at the following car parks: Abbey Foregate, Barker Street, Bridge Street, Frankwell Main, Frankwell Riverside, Raven Meadows Multi Storey, Raven Meadows, St Austin’s Street, St Julian’s Friars, The Tannery and Wyle Cop.
