Larger than life festive characters will soon spring up in Shrewsbury town centre with visitors invited to join The Nutcracker Trail.

Ten 6ft 5ins high Nutcracker Kings will be placed at different locations when the trail opens on Tuesday 13th December. Each one has its own name and the challenge will be to find all ten, write the names on a trail card and enter a draw for the chance to win an iPad Mini.

Shrewsbury Business Improvement District (BID) has organised the trail to encourage people to discover all the town has to offer by tracking down the brightly coloured Nutcracker Kings.

Trail booklets will be available to pick up from Shrewsbury’s Tourist Information Centre in the Museum and Art Gallery and from Darwin Shopping Centre’s Santa’s Grotto. They can also be downloaded from

Nutcracker seekers can use the trail booklet and map to assist the search and will have until Wednesday 28th December to complete it.  The answers will go into a draw with the lucky winner announced on Tuesday 3rd January.

Mike Dalton owner of stop.Cafe and Shrewsbury BID Board director said: “The tale of the Nutcracker doll which comes alive is a magical Christmas story. Our Nutcracker Trail is a fun way to entertain the family over the festive period and give visitors another reason to explore the town centre and experience its many attractions.

“Shrewsbury is a special place with a diverse retail, leisure and hospitality offer. It really comes into its own at this time of year with its Christmas lights, events and festivals. We want to encourage more people to come to Shrewsbury to enjoy its charm and support the local economy.”
