Shrewsbury Carnival – Saturday 17th June

This year’s theme is Carnival Goes Around the World, the annual event starts with a show in the Quarry Park before a town-centre procession.

The following town centre roads will be closed from 1.30pm, ready for the carnival to start at 2pm:
Victoria Avenue, Victoria Quay, Smithfield Road, Castle Gates, Castle Street, St. Mary’s Street, Dogpole, High Street, Shoplatch, Bellstone, Barker Street, Bridge Street, Roushill and Raven Meadows.

There will be no access over the Welsh Bridge into town and traffic will be stopped at the sorting office in Castle Foregate. The only traffic allowed past the closure at the English Bridge Gyratory will be for access to businesses in Wyle Cop or to travel along Town Walls.

The roads will re-open as soon as the carnival parade has reached the Quarry Park and all of the road and safety checks have been completed.

Shrewsbury Half Marathon – Sunday 18th June

Organised by UKRunChat for the second year, around 1,500 runners are expected to take part, starting from the West Mid Showground and taking a route through the Quarry Park and town centre, before heading out to the countryside to the north of the town. View the entire route here.

The following town centre roads will be closed from 8.30am until the last runner has passed, they are all expected to be reopened by 11am:

Smithfield Road, Welsh Bridge, Victoria Quay, Crescent Lane, Town Walls, Murivance, St Chads Terrace, Claremont Bank, Lower Claremont Bank, Barker Street, Bellstone, Shoplatch, Mardol Head, High Street, Milk Street, Belmont, Beeches Lane, English Bridge, Wyle Cop, Dogpole, St Marys Street, Castle Street, Castle Gates, Ellesmere Road, Huffley Lane and Berwick Road.
