Covid recovery: Shrewsbury’s Open

With businesses reopening and the town getting back to a new normal, the Shrewsbury’s Open campaign celebrates the changes that have been brought in to make this a summer enjoyable for everyone.

We have created a bright and colourful brand for the campaign aiming to bring a festival feel to the town, along with commissioning new photographs to focus on the people of our town.

Alfresco dining

To support food and drink businesses as they re-open, Shrewsbury BID has worked with Shropshire Council to explore where new temporary outdoor seating can be installed. Branded barriers have been provided where needed to make the spaces safe.

More pedestrian space

We have supported Shropshire Council in the closure of High Street, Shoplatch, Milk Street and the Square between 11am and 6pm, and the removal of the bus lane on Castle Street to widen roads and make it safer for pedestrians to socially distance.

Cycling encouragement

Extra cycle storage points, including new style metal planter cycle locks, have been installed across the town to make it easier for people travelling in by bike. The new wider pavements have also created more space for cyclists to move around the town.

Doorstep photos

We have commissioned local photographer Birgitta Zoutman to take ‘door-step’ photographs of the owners, managers and staff in our town to celebrate the town reopening.

The photographs are partially subsidised, they are £5 for BID members and £15 for non-BID members.

The Shrewsbury’s Open project has been funded by the Shrewsbury Recovery Taskforce, which includes Shrewsbury BID, Shropshire Council, and Shrewsbury Town Council.
