Following a large degree of public pressure, and lobbying by local councillors and organisations including Shrewsbury BID, Shropshire Council has announced today that Meole Brace Park & Ride will continue running past the 1st of November, the date it had been due to be suspended.

It will use the extra time to develop a long-term plan for Park & Ride in Shrewsbury.

This is welcome news for town centre businesses, staff and visitors who rely on the service. However, it is a short-term extension, not a permanent commitment. We'll keep pushing for a long-term solution that works for the town centre, and keep you informed as plans develop.

They were joined by Safer Shrewsbury partners from the Town Centre policing team, Inspector Ingrid Tozer and PCSO Joseph Bradley, the Town Rangers, and @shrewsburytowncouncil's Max Ball to talk about the work being done.

Elisa Lewis, Store Manager of M&S Shropshire, also took to the microphone to discuss the impact of shoplifting and how Safer Shrewsbury has helped to mitigate these.

๐Ÿ‘‹ What would YOU name Abbey Foregateโ€™s new Pocket ๐Ÿ‘‹ What would YOU name Abbey Foregateโ€™s new Pocket Park?

For years, the fenced-off plot in Abbey Foregate, between Hair 21 and the railway bridge, has been one of the town's most overlooked corners.

Now, as @shrewsburybid works with local landowner Martin Monahan (@thebuttermarket) and @theshrewsburymensshed to transform it into a mini park and volunteer-led community garden, we want your help to give it a deserving name.

The site is located in a heritage area with ties to several significant moments and individuals in British history. In Shrewsburyโ€™s recent past, it was home to a bike shop and a fishing tackle shop - and, later on, an enormous buddleia or two!

When the completed pocket park opens to the public, it will feature seating and planting at the front and a community garden behind, plus free public WiFi, lighting, secure cycle storage and a Brompton bike hire station.

Which of these historic or future elements will you celebrate with your chosen name?

Submit your suggestion now via the link in our bio โฌ†๏ธ OR in the comments โฌ‡๏ธ

The winning name will be selected by the project team in the near future โ€“ stay tuned!
