For 2023, we organised an Easter Egg trail with a dozen 1.5m tall eggs across the town centre and a screening for the King’s Coronation in May.
To celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in June 2022, we organised a weekend of live music with deck chairs and bean bags set out as a chill-out zone. We held a ‘Live Like a Royal’ competition with thrones set out for photo opportunities.
In 2020, we organised live music in the Square during summer days in partnership with Theatre Severn to enhance the experience for people visiting the town. We expanded our activations for 2021 with support from DARG funding with live music, pavement painting, a Wimbledon screening and Sofa Sundays.
In spring 2019, town centre roads were closed for gas work upgrades and we created a new town park on the closed area of road on Shoplatch. The Shoplatch Park was our biggest activation yet, with two areas of astroturf, picket fencing, picnic benches, deck chairs and parasols. Local businesses took ownership of the space and created a calendar packed with events and activities.
In 2018, we organised an outdoor screening of the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan at St Alkmund’s Church. The event attracted a large number of viewers who chose to mark the occasion in the town centre, rather than in their own homes. One couple even chose to stay in Shrewsbury, rather than make a visitor to Windsor after they heard of the screening. The same year, we organised Games in the Square, the three-day event saw the Square filled with astroturf, deck chairs and giant games for families to enjoy during the final days of the summer holidays.
